First Year
During the first or Preparatory year, the prospective students of the College of Architecture and Planning take the same courses as the other new students in either the College of Engineering or the College of Design. The Preparatory year is completed in the Engineering track and the students will focus on improving their English language skills, cover the basic sciences and learn fundamental design skills.
Second Year
The second year is common across all College of Architecture and Planning departments. In this year students learn the fundamentals of architecture, planning, interior architecture, landscape architecture and building engineering. The coursework for the Common year will establish a foundation in design, two and three dimensional theories, help the students acquire the necessary skills of free-hand and engineering drawing and design techniques as well as gain experience with planning software before proceeding with their specialization in interior architecture.
Third Year
In the third year students will learn how to design the internal environment of buildings with multiple functions by focusing on the needs of the user and integrate this information into the design concept. They will also get a background in the history of art and architecture, explore various methods of construction, cover working details and furniture design as well as learn three-dimensional computer programs.
Fourth Year
During the fourth year the students will learn about the reuse of historic buildings where the original function has changed in order to make the traditional structure economically viable without compromising the historical significance of the building. The students will also develop an understanding of the issues related to sustainability and the use of recycled materials in design solutions.
Fifth Year
In the fifth and final year the students will be prepared for professional practice. They will research and design their own original graduation project that is specific to each student. This graduation project is a personal project that reflects the students’ interests and incorporates all of the knowledge and skills they have developed over the years at the University, while simultaneously incorporating professional business practices related to project management and cost estimation.
The design studio is the backbone of the Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Architecture Program, since it is an essential element in each term, where the level of difficulty becomes increasingly complex with each new semester.
