Academic Promotions

Academic promotion is the most important decision made by academic departments, colleges' boards, and the Scientific Council. Academic promotion is subjected to rules and regulations with a minimum requirement of high standard scientific publications, innovations and patents. Scientific achievements don't only help faculty members to gain promotions, but also work to improve the standard of scientific research and therefore, the University's ranking.

Appointment to Assistant Professor and Higher Ranks

The faculty member is the most important asset of a university, therefore, the decision to recommend an appointment of a faculty member is considered a tenacious decision was taken by academic departments, boards of colleges and the Scientific Council. Due to the extreme importance of such a decision, the University has set rules and regulations to ensure that the best selection of faculty with outstanding qualities, efficiency, and creativity are chosen.

Transfer

A faculty member and his/her equivalents can be transferred within the scope of their scientific specialization from one department to another within the college or from one college to another according to a decision from the President of the University based on the Scientific Council's recommendations.

Service Termination & Contracts

A faculty member's service is terminated by one of the following reasons:

  • Resignation,
  • Retirement request
  • Health disabilities
  • Other.

Scientific Consultations

A faculty member is permitted to do part-time consultations to a governmental or private sector, regional or international organizations that are located within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Scientific Communication

Faculty members can go for scientific communication outside the University headquarters in a scientific mission, or to teach outside the Kingdom. Scientific communication can also be in the form of conducting research in a center or a university other than his/her during the summer vacation.

Sabbatical Leave

A faculty member can be exempted from his/her academic duties at a college for a specified period for the purpose of scientific research, scholarship, or to improve his/her educational and practical knowledge.

Scientific Publication

The following requests are examined and then approved:

  • Publishing a scientific work
  • Requesting to fund a scientific work
  • Arbitration of a scientific work Request
  • Considering a scientific work reward.

The production submitted for publication at the University includes the following:

  • Scientific Thesis
  • Scientific Research
  • Systematic Textbooks
  • Work and Office References
  • Translators of references, textbooks, and others
  • Investigations
  • Encyclopedias and Dictionaries
  • What the Scientific Council sees as valid for publication.

Publishing in Classified Journals

Your application request should contain the following:

  1. A copy of the research published in the journal
  2. A screen shot showing the name of the journal from the Scientific Council's approved list for Excellence Rewards, highlighted in a different color.
  3. The approvals of your department and college councils and the official authority.
  4. A photo of your national ID.

The Excellence Reward

The Scientific Council will determine the excellence reward from the first basic salary of a faculty member in accordance with:

  • Scientific Publishing
  • Local, Regional, Global Scientific awards.
  • Scientific innovation, innovation in Biotechnology, Medical, Medical drugs, Patents.
  • Conducting a rare surgery.
  • Excellence Awards for members of King Fahd University Hospital.

Your application request should contain the following:

  1. A copy of the research published in the journal
  2. A screen shot showing the name of the journal from the Scientific Council's approved list for Excellence Rewards, highlighted in a different color.
  3. The approvals of your department and college councils and the official authority.
  4. A photo of your national ID.
