The Clinical Skills and simulation laboratory (CSSL) at the College of Medicine -Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) is a clinical training facility that can be used as a resource for specialized training of medical students, residents and healthcare provider. The CSSL provides opportunities for hands on training in a safe environment. It is part of Medical Education Department and has some high-fidelity simulators, Intermediate fidelity simulator and task trainers.

Facilities available include:

  • Simulators and Models 
    1. Human patient simulators -  Simman 3G , Hal Man, Hal Baby
    2. Eye disease & Eye surgical simulator -  Eyesi surgical simulator for Glaucoma and cataract.
    3. Obstetric and gynecological simulator - Noel mam simulator.
    4. Cardio pulmonary simulator- Harvey cardiac simulators.
    5. Task trainer modules used for training basic clinical skills such as suturing, rectal examination. IV insertion .NGT insertion,  intubation and catheterization.
  • Clinical Simulation Area's Use for Practice and (OSCE).

Mission

The Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratory promotes the inclusion of simulation in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students via providing a safe, learner-centered and patient-oriented environment.

Vision

The Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratory  at the college of medicine -Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University will make every effort to become a highly regarded and regionally recognized modern learning environment that serves as an unique teaching and learning resource for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

Goals

  1. To providing a safe, learner-centered and patient-oriented environment.
  2. To enhance the quality of medical care and patient safety.
  3. To allow learners to have experiential learning through deliberate practice where clinical opportunities are limited or entirely not available
  4. To overcome the problem of deficiency of clinical material and the unavailability of patients suitable for the training particularly with the gradual increase in the number of medical students at the college.
  5. To expose the learners to the same learning opportunity by allowing multiple learners to learn the same skill or access the same scenario on simulators.
  6. To transfer the curriculum planning from the concentration on the cognitive domain to equal emphasis on the psychomotor and affective domain in addition to the cognitive domain of learning.
