Lab description:

A workspace to do the actual manual experiment using devices, tools and chemicals for health track students at the first and second levels. This is the primary and first step that helps female students acquire a set of academic skills necessary to continue their health studies. In addition, the practical part of the chemistry syllabus covers the teaching and application of experiments from general chemistry and organic chemistry with an aim of empowering the students on chemistry related to pharmacology and medicinal compounds.

Lab objectives:

1. Give an introduction and general information about safety rules in the laboratory and the method for the proper use of chemicals, tools and devices. As this is the first and necessary goal for every student inside the lab.
2. Applying the rules of qualitative chemical analysis that aims to identify the anions and cations of inorganic matter by using a series of reagents on unknown samples according to scientific rules and observing the chemical reactions that occur and their products to infer the type of compounds and their properties.
3. Knowing how to prepare, dilute and titrate the standard solution, then measure its pH
4. Modeling of simple organic molecules and their analogues through stereoscopes according to the names of the IUPAC system.

Available Tools and Devices:

  • Gas Centrifuge: in which experiments are carried out using concentrated and incendiary materials, which result in the release of toxic gases. It aims to protect workers and the laboratory environment from the danger of these materials and their fumes and to reduce their harmful effects resulting from chemical work for long periods.
  • Chemical Refrigerator: used to keep and store materials that need low temperatures when storing them, as well as for volatile substances such as ethanol.
  • Chemical Furnace: used to dry a group of sediments resulting from some types of chemical reactions and is also used to dry glassware.
  • Water Distillation Device: used to obtain high purity water for use in chemical experiments to obtain high-precision results.
  • pH device: used to measure the pH of pure substances and various chemical solutions.
