Program Mission: 

 To provide high quality education and scientific research in the various areas of Literature to enrich literary studies that serve the community. 

Program Goals:

1. Providing broad theoretical and practical knowledge of English Literature. 
2. Preparing postgraduate students to conduct innovative research in their fields of Literature.
3. Enriching universities, at local and regional levels, with highly qualified academics in the field of Literature who are able to serve the society in different areas.

Program System

The program is conducted through courses and a thesis.

24 study units + 6 Thesis

Graduation requirements:

1. Success in all courses with a grade of no less than “good” in these courses and a cumulative grade of no less than “very good.”
2. Successfully discuss the thesis before a jury and complete all required amendments (if any) as deemed necessary by this committee.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the program is subject to the Higher Education requirements of the Saudi universities and the admission requirements approved by the Department of English Board:

1. BA degree in English Language from any university approved by the Ministry of Higher Education with a minimum grade of B.
2. Passing additional complementary courses in linguistics in accordance with rules. 
3. Minimum score of (6) in IELTS or any other equivalent test.
4. Passing the written test and the interview conducted by the Department.

The program study plan applies a blended system of taught courses and thesis and has four specializations: Criticism, Poetry, Drama, and Fiction. Two academic semesters are dedicated to complete the taught courses: shared courses should be completed in the first semester, and specialized courses in any of the four above mentioned specializations should be completed in the second semester.

Upon completion of the taught courses, the student embarks on preparing the thesis in her area of specialization. 

The program includes (30) credit hours .
