Student councils 

Student councils are student committees elected by free voting that represent all students at the college to achieve the goals described in the controls and procedures of student councils in accordance with the regulations, provisions, and laws in force in the university and the system of higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The student councils provide students with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, solve problems, and communicate by organizing and setting up university activities and service projects to serve the educational process. Members of the student councils represent the voice of students, and they attend meetings with senior management on a regular basis to communicate students' ideas, interests, and suggestions to the university's senior management.

Student Council goals

  1. Creating a link between students and the college and university administrations, with the aim of communicating and presenting opinions and proposals to serve the educational process.
  2. Enhancing participation and cooperation between students, administration, and faculty members.
  3. Developing students' capabilities and encouraging them to actively participate in serving local community issues.
  4. Develop students' leadership, communication, and responsibility skills, which contributes to building a student community that can compete globally.
  5. Discovering students' capabilities and talents and directing them in the appropriate direction.
  6. Participate in organizing and coordinating individual and group student activities and make the most of available university capabilities.
  7. Educating students and urging them to abide by the provisions and regulations in force at the university, good performance and academic achievement, and good dealings with faculty members and university employees.
  8. Developing students' loyalty to their country, university, and colleges.

Membership and its terms

All students at the concerned college, who have not been subject to disciplinary sanctions, are entitled to run for membership in the college’s student council according to the following conditions:

1. The student must be a regular student at the university.
2. The number of semesters remaining for the student shall not be less than two semesters.
3. The student's cumulative GPA should not be less than (3) out of (5).

Formation of student councils in colleges

The Student Council is formed in each college as follows:

1. Six members if the college offers one study program for one gender only (male or female students)
2. Eight members if the college offers one study program for both sexes (male and female students).
3. Eight members if the college offers more than one study program for one gender only (male or female students).
4. Ten members if the college offers more than one study program for both sexes (male and female students).
5. Three members for each track of the preparatory year.
6. A single student council is formed in the faculties and the deanship of the preparatory year and supporting studies, including male and female students, with the mechanisms mentioned in these regulations.

Formation of the Supreme Student Council

1. The University's Supreme Student Council consists of the heads of student councils in all university faculties.
2. The selection of administrative positions for the members of the Student Supreme Council is based on the majority vote by the members of the Council.
3. If the President of the Supreme Student Council is nominated by students, then the nomination for the position of Vice President of the Council shall be from female students or vice versa.

Formation of electoral commissions

The Vice President for Academic Affairs forms the Higher Committee for Elections and calls for student council elections and approving their results.

(A) The Higher Committee for Supervising Student Council Elections shall be formed, consisting of:

Director of the Student Activities Unit in the Deanship of Student Affairs

(B) A sub-committee is formed in each college to supervise the student council elections, consisting of:

Membership of (2) two faculty members in the college

Membership (3) students who are not candidates for student council membership

member

Director of the Student Activities Unit in the college

The committees begin their work in the first month of each academic year according to the following dates:

Announcing the elections and starting to receive the names of the candidates

Announcing the names of the candidates and informing the electoral totals of that

Voting and balloting for candidates by the Electoral College

The first meeting of the Student Council to determine the president, vice president, council secretary, coordinator of student activities, and media officer

Formation of the Supreme Student Council

 

Membership term

The term of membership in the Student Council is a full academic year, starting with the beginning of the academic year and ending at the end of it, with the possibility of student councils continuing until the end of the summer semester.
