Course Main Objective
This course aims to make students acquire the basic concepts of subject analysis of information resources and its theories and role in the process of information organization and its relation to other activities of information organization and further acquire practical skills necessary to practice such process.

- 1.1 Explain the main concepts related to subject analysis of information resources and creating subject catalogues as retrieval tools and the relevant issues and role of this process in information organization and retrieval.

- 2.1 Apply the basic skills related to the methodological subject analysis of information resources.

- Basic concepts of subject analysis
- Theory of subject headings
- Basic principles of selecting subject headings.
- Forms and components of subject headings.
- Subheadings of subject headings and the verbal format (division).
- Footnotes to subject headings in the subject lists and catalogues.
- References used in subject heading lists and subject catalogues.
- Subject heading lists: concept, importance, types, basics of their structure, and standard of selection.
- Subject authority control.
