Course Description
This is an advanced undergraduate course concerned with "production" or "operations" function of a firm and some of the tools, which managers use to deal with problems in this functional area. Operations are the core of business activity, and OM has a profound effect on the productivity of both manufacturing and services. This course addresses both the strategic importance and the analytic tools of operations management that help in achieving corporate strategic objectives.
Learning Outcomes
1. To develop an understanding of the production and operations management function in any organization.
2. To understand the importance of product and service design decisions and its impact on other design decisions and operations.
3. To understand the techniques used in planning practices of capacity planning, aggregate planning, project planning, and scheduling.
4. To understand the roles of inventories and the basics of managing inventories in various demand settings.
5. To understand supply-chain management activities and the renewed importance of this aspect of organizational strategy.
