Course Description
Content:
Nomenclature of heterocyclic compounds. Synthesis and reactions of heterocyclic compounds, including one and two hetero atoms five and six-member rings and fused rings such as (pyrroles, furans, thiophenes, pyridines, oxazoles, imidazoles, and pyrimidine) Study Applications of heterocycles molecules of pharmaceutical importance, and natural products some of these compounds.
Course Objectives & Outcomes
Objectives:
- Classification and nomenclature of the heterocyclic compounds.
- Understand the classic methodologies of heterocyclic chemistry organic synthesis.
- Explain the physical and chemical properties of heterocyclic compounds with one and two heteroatom’s five-and six-memberd rings.
- Syntheses and reactions of the heterocyclic compounds.
- Recognize the importance of medical, biological activity, and applied to some of these compounds.
Outcomes:
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Know the rules of nomenclature and describe structural, physical, and chemical properties and summarize and discuss various types of reactions and applications of heterocyclic compounds.
- Synthesize the heterocyclic compounds. Relate the electrophilic substitution/ addition for divers compounds with one and two hetero atoms as single or fused rings.
- Compare the reactivity between the different heterocyclic. Solve problems demonstrating an understanding of fundamental reactions of addition and nucleophilic reactions.
