The President of the University of Dammam, Dr. Abdullah M. Al Rubaish recently addressed UoD’s Harvest for the Community First Annual Forum, that was hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Studies, Development and Community Service and represented by UoD’s Deanship of Community Service and Sustainable Development on June 3, 2015 at the Great Hall on UoD’s main campus. UoD’s President, Vice Presidents, Deans and community partners from the public, private and charity sectors attended this forum.
Dr. Al Rubaish praised the achievements that the Deanship of Community Service and Sustainable Development has made during its first year of operation. He noted that, “The achievements and progress this relatively new deanship has made during its first year are astonishing and reflect the determination, commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm that have come to represent this deanship, setting it apart from the more established deanships at the University.”
He also noted that the words “Sustainable Development” in the title of this deanship were carefully selected in order that this deanship would have a complete strategy, program and course of action that would have a positive effect on the administration and academic entities at UoD, with the intent of providing enhanced and effective services for the community. He also noted that, “The deanship has adopted a worldview that came out an initiative on Higher Education from the 2014 Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.”
Dr. Al Rubaish also referred to the strength and diversity of programs that the deanship provides, such as the one-of-a-kind national Dafeh initiative that was recently praised by HRH, Prince Saud bin Naif, the governor of the Eastern Province. Dr. Al Rubaish offered his gratitude to the Dean of Community Service and Sustainable Development, Dr. Nagah Muqbil Al Garaui as well as to her staff. Dr. Al Garaui stated that the deanship is committed to strengthening and disseminating the concepts of sustainable development through the following three dimensions: social, environmental and economical, in addition to synthesizing two crucial community service concepts of social responsibility via zakat and volunteer work as a form of charity.
