The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs is sponsoring a series of competitions open to current UOD Students.  Competitions will be held in the following areas:

  • Qur’an
  • Nasheed
  • Poetry
  • Arabic Calligraphy

The Qur’an Competition 

Level 1:  Memorize Surah Al-Maedah and recite using proper tajweed. 

Level 2:  Memorize Surah Al-Furkaan and recite using proper tajweed

Level 3:  Memorize Surah Yasine and recite using proper tajweed

Rules for the Qur’an competition:

Every student may compete in only one level. 

Prizes for the Qur’an competition

  • First 2500 riyals 2000 riyals 1500 riyals
  • Second 2000 riyals 1500 riyals 1000 riyals
  • Third 1500 riyals 1000 riyals 500 riyals

The Nasheed Competition

Rules:

The lyrics should be eloquent and have a profound meaning.

Only individuals are allowed to compete, no groups.

Rubric for this competition:  40% for voice quality and performance, 30% for lyrics and 30% for melody.

Prizes for the Nasheed competition

  • First 2000 riyals
  • Second 1500 riyals
  • Third 1000 riyals

The Poetry Competition

Rules:

  1. The subject of the poem should be developed by the student and should have a meaning that resonates with and advances the community. 
  2. All poems must be new, original works created by the student.
  3. The poem must be at least 20 lines and not more than 35 lines.
  4. The poem must be written in proper Arabic without any spelling or grammatical errors.
  5. The poem must be in a Word document and a printed copy along with a cd must be submitted in order to compete.
  6. A panel will evaluate the poems. 

Prizes for the Poetry competition

  • Third 1000 riyals

The Arabic Calligraphy competition

Rules:  

  1. The work must be a new and original piece that has been drawn by the student and has not previously been entered in any other competitions.
  2. Students are allowed to enter only one piece.
  3. The style of calligraphy, dimensions, colors and other raw materials are at the discretion of the student.
  4. Each contestant must attach a paper to the back of their artwork, with the title of the piece, their name and a photocopy of their UOD ID.  
  5. Contestants must include a copy of their work on a cd.  
  6. The University reserves the right to keep the prizewinners.
