Selection of Dr. Jerman Al-Qahtani as the Only Arab Cataract Surgeon for the Membership of a World-wide "Ultrasound Cataract Surgeries" Review Panel (Dammam)
Dr. Jerman Moaid Al-Qahtani, Assistant Professor - Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Consultant Ophthalmologist at King Fahd University Hospital – Khobar, and Fellow of Walter Reed Medical Center Washington D.C. USA has been selected among a world-wide group of most famous elite cataract surgeons to be a member of the review panel with an aim to evaluate ultrasound cataract surgeries.
Dr. Al-Qahtani expressed his pride and honor for being selected as the only Saudi and Arab in this review panel, which included a world-wide group of the most famous elite cataract surgeons from South America and India.
Concerning the panel's work mechanism, Dr. Jerman indicated that the work continued for three consecutive months. He added that a continuous evaluation and review of ultrasound cataract surgeries, sorting all the videos during that period, selecting the best 12 videos, and presenting them globally during a meeting held on 8/8/2020 during which the cases were discussed with the surgeons who performed those surgeries includes: the details of the surgery, complications that accompanied it, how it was handled, and the appropriate methods of preventing such complications from occurring. Dr. Jerman Al-Qahtani, member of the review panel, stated that the panel honored and awarded surgeons who performed the best surgical operations for:
- Best educational videos.
- Unexpected surgical complications and how to handle them.
- Incentive awards for young surgeons.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Jarman Al-Qahtani previously held several positions; chaired and participated in many committees, including:
- Chairman, Ophthalmology Department at King Fahd University Hospital - Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University for several years.
- First director for the Ophthalmology Joint Training Program in the Eastern Region 2006-2010
- Participated for several years in Ophthalmology Programs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman.
- Participated for several years as a member of the Scientific Council of the Saudi Board and the Arab Board for Health Specializations in Damascus.
- Participated for several years as an external examiner in the Arab Board and the Saudi Board.
- Participated with scientific papers in several international symposia in America and Europe.
- Obtained a scientific merit award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology – 2009

At the invitation of the Shura Council, Dr. Jerman participated in finding solutions to ophthalmology problems in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2015.
