Objective
Semantics and Pragmatics introduces basic areas of Semantics and Pragmatics with emphasis on different types of meaning and meaning relations. The course covers the topics sense and reference as well as main sense relations: hyponymy, synonymy, antonym, and polysemy. It briefly introduces the basic concepts in the study of figurative meaning. It also provides a preliminary coverage of Speech acts theory, Implicature and Grice Maxims.
