This course attempts to provide a comprehensive introduction to both fundamental and advanced concepts in probability and statistics most likely to be encountered and used by students in their safety engineering careers. This course will provide students with a balanced presentation of introductory mathematical foundations and applications of statistics and probability with emphasis on data analysis and inference. Care has been taken in developing the major concepts of statistical and probabilistic techniques with emphasis on safety engineering applications. The topics include random variables and probability distribution, discrete probability distributions, continuous probability distributions, linear regression and correlation, fundamental sampling distributions and data descriptions
