Course Main Objective
At end of the course, student will be able to:-
1. Identify the general framework of Geography of Transport and Communications.
2. Explain Geography of Transport and Communications and its domains, types and development.
3. Analyze the factors affect transport and communications and their sustainability.
4. Identify the importance of transport and its various types (land- river- maritime- air) in exploiting resources and movement of population and connect them with local reality.
5. Highlight the importance of communications and its different types (wired- wireless) in exploiting resources and movement of population and connect them with local reality.
Course Learning Outcomes

- 1.1 Define the basic concepts of Geography of Transport and Communications and its relation to the other branches of natural and human geography.
- 2. Skills
- 2.1 Differentiate among the different types of transport and communications in the past and at present and highlight their latest developments in light of modern technology and development.
- 2.2 Employ the quantitative methods, maps, and GISs in analyzing and interpreting spatial information.
- 3. Values
- 3.1 Appreciate teamwork and bear individual and collective responsibility.
Course Content:
- Definition of Geography of Transport: its concept, development, domain, approaches, the natural factors affect transport, the human factors affect transport.
- Economics of transport from the geographic perspective; some quantitative methods used in geography of transport.
- Von Thunen Model.
- Land transport (old roads: world roads, local roads, planned and modern roads) as well as railways concerning: types and scales, pipeline transport, electric power transmission, suspension transport.
- River, maritime and air transport.
- Definition of communications and its evolution, theories and types of communications (wired and wireless).
