Course Description
Furniture Design course bridges aesthetics learnt from historical styles and practical considerations in furniture design. It is furthering the learning of factors of culture, ergonomic considerations, functional requirements, materials, fabrication processes, structural integrity and aesthetics of design influencing the design of furniture. This course draws on the theoretical information given in the previous course, History of Furniture, and completes the knowledge base of furniture design by exposing the students to the technicalities, the aesthetics and form of furniture design in a real sense.
The course is divided into two main components:
- Study of ergonomic considerations, functional requirements, materials, fabrication processes, structural integrity and aesthetics of furniture design.
- Application of above theoretical information in designing a piece of furniture in its given functional context.
