Course Description
The course gives biomedical engineering students who have a limited background in biology the fundamentals of biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics. Topics include: physiochemical principles, chemistry of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, minerals, yeasts and vitamins, hormones and hormonal assay and their roles in regulating vital functions, enzymes and enzyme assay, nucleotides and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) chemistry and function. Nucleic acids will also be examined by looking at their synthesis, genetic code and genetic transcription.
