Course Description
The Mathematics I course reinforces basic math skills and their relevance to everyday applications. These skills encompass the ability to solve mathematical problems, analyze and interpret data. The purpose of this course is to develop the comprehension skills that will be necessary to fully understand the course material that will be presented in English, as well as improve the students’ computational skills. The students will also benefit from this class by enhancing their writing skills when they present solutions with logical steps as well as prepare the students for pre-calculus. An emphasis will be given to understanding the statement of problems and mathematical terms. The course will primarily focus on the development of the students’ critical thinking skills through the use of mathematical concepts they are familiar with from high school. Topics will include: the fundamentals of algebra, equation and inequalities, polynomials, rational functions, complex numbers, vectors, functions, graphs, as well as exponential and logarithmic functions.
